I just previewed 2 of the New P90X2 workouts and I wanted to share my thoughts with you. Before we get started didn’t Barbie Decker ROCK Core X!! She looked gorgeous wouldn’t you say?? I would DEFINITELY say she did! GORGEOUS!!
I previewed Core X and Balance and Power X!! These workouts are INTENSE!! Do not take that statement lightly– They are INTENSE!! They are analogous to P90X jacked up on steroids or worse!! Even with a history of successfully completing P90X,Insanity, Turbo Fire, my own add ins to chisel my performance, I still felt that my skills fell short. REALLY SHORT! I have never seen such craziness in all my life. But I LOVED IT!!!
Before we dig too deep into the program and what recommendations I have lets start by discussing who should and should NOT be doing this program. This is the most intense workout program I have ever done. It takes your body to a level of extreme fitness. That being said, you have to be ready for that ride. This is NOT a beginner or “I am just starting out” program. We have programs for that. This is NOT one one them. I used to think that you should have completed P90X, Turbo Fire, or Insanity before attempting this. I have rethought that and after previewing the program I think that a minimum should be that you completed P90X before beginning this program. A lot of the moves in this program are graduate moves from P90X. If you didn’t successfully complete P90X then you don’t have the foundation that you need to complete P90X2! Make sense?? Could you have gotten this experience in the gym or from another program?? Yes… but HIGHLY UNLIKELY!! You’ve been warned! Workout responsibly!
Now for the superheros out there!! I want to caution even you here and give you some much needed pointers for you to succeed!! Just like with P90X, don’t get frustrated if you can’t do the workout right out of the gate. Do you remember when you first began P90X?? Did you have to modify any of the moves in the beginning?? But by the end of the 90 days you were the king or queen in your kingdom and were anxious to show Tony a few things with your new found confidence? Okay maybe not entirely but you get idea! Well it won’t be any different with X2. You will quickly realize your weakness and be able to focus on the stregth that is needed for success in that area. It is tough!! And it is supposed to be! It is meant to make you better but NOT meant to hurt you!! Now if on the other hand you go into this with ease then one of two things is happening. Either you really are a super hero of some sort and are in incredible shape (AJ!!– YES YOU!) or you are not doing the moves correctly!! I would caution you that form has never been more important than it is now!!
Let’s talk about some basic ways that you can be successful:
1. MODIFY MODIFY MODIFY!!! If you can’t do the move then modify it. Each of the videos has a modifier. Follow the modifier. Another way you can modify is drop to no weight or move to the floor. Let me explain what I mean here. If a move is using a stabilization ball then remove the ball by doing the move from the floor or without the ball. This will make the move easier. Stabilization always intensifies a move. Once you have it from the floor or without the ball then you can always gradually move back to including the ball without risking injury. The same is true with weight. Get the move down without the weight and then slowly add weight back in to build up to the next level. That is the great thing about this and many of the Beachbody programs– you can grow with the program.
What if I can’t do the moves at all?? I would say if you are truly struggling with more of the moves– even modified– than you are getting successfully accomplished then you would find better success going back to P90X first before further attempting this program. Once you are ready for X2 you will feel better about the program, your ability and you will have less frustration but most importantly, you won’t be risking a nasty injury!!
2. LISTEN TO TONY!! He is always giving you pointers on how to keep from getting injured. He says it best when he says. “You’ve been warned!”
3. FORM!! Oh my goodness!! I am a big big advocate of form! It is so important. This program takes that concept and magnifies it. If you aren’t aware of your body, what you are doing with your body, and what your capabilities are then you WILL GET HURT!! I don’t want that for you!! I would highly suggest getting a mirror and placing it in the room that you are using to workout in. That will help give you a visual of what you are actually doing versus what you think you may be doing.
That is all I have at first glance! I am here to help in any way that I can! Let’s CRUSH THIS THING!!! See you in 90 days!! BRING IT!! X2 STYLE BABY!!!

The One on One Vol 3 routines (workshop/trial run for X2) are a great intro and a perfect step between P90X and P90X2. Grabbing a few of those (mostly the non-cardio and balance ones) would be very helpful in bridging the gap as well.
That is a wonderful point Jonathan!! I couldn’t agree more!!
Don’t suppose there are digital downloads of the workout calendar and worksheets for X2 yet??
They are in the works Rance. As soon as we have them up and running I will definitely get them forwarded to you!! Have a ROCKIN week!!!
